Seas At Risk is an independent non-governmental association of national and international environmental organisations concerned with the protection and restoration of the marine environment. Seas At Risk is currently working on issues as diverse as the protection of deepwater ecosystems, greenhouse gas emissions from shipping, and EU-level marine policies.

Seas At Risk (SAR) is looking to recruit a new team member to work on the Common Fisheries Policy. The main responsibilities of the successful candidate will be:
  • To produce, jointly with FISH1, an environmental briefing document on fisheries policy ahead of each Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting for Ministers and public officials attending that meeting.
  • To ensure that the briefing documents are understandable and relevant to other actors as well, compiled and sent in a timely manner, well-researched and backed up by reliable supportive documentation.
  • To report on the outcomes of Fisheries Council meetings.
  • To communicate and consult with relevant actors, especially SAR and FISH staff and SAR member organisations.
  • To assist SAR staff in other fisheries-related policy work as appropriate.

The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience in the field of European fisheries policy, knowledge of the process of policy development in European institutions and proven skills in writing informative text and articles. We are looking for a natural communicator with excellent writing skills, a consummate team player, capable of working independently and on flexible working hours.

Candidates must be fluent in written and spoken English, and computer literate. Knowledge of other European languages is desirable.

This is a part-time position for 2.5 days a week, but depending on funding it can be increased to full-time. The post will initially be available for the period of 20th September to 31st December 2010, but is intended to become a permanent post. Gross monthly salary for 2.5 days a week will be €1,250.
