Reporting to; the Chief Executives of the AOP, ABDO and FODO, members of the Optical Confederation
The Optical Confederation represents the 12,000 optometrists, 6,000 dispensing opticians and 7,000 optical businesses in the UK who provide high quality and accessible eye care services to the whole population. The Confederation is a coalition of five optical bodies; the Association of British Dispensing Opticians, the Association of Contact Lens Manufacturers, the Association of Optometrists, the Federation of Manufacturing Opticians and the Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians.
Duties: To develop and implement public affairs and communication strategies to raise the profile of the eye care sector and promote eye health within parliament, national and local government and with key stakeholders including other healthcare professions. This is a high profile role within the sector, which also involves managing the Eye Health Alliance, a coalition of 10 organisations representing professionals, trade associations and charities. The Head of Public Affairs has line management responsibility for one public affairs officer.
The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge of the high level influencing and political environment, and ideally, although not essential, some experience of working in a similar role within the health care sector.
