One Society draws on research that shows high rates of income inequality are damaging to our economy and to society. We work with policy makers, employers and other decision makers who have significant power to affect rates of income inequality. We work in partnership with the Equality Trust.
We are seeking an individual with the ability to both develop well-evidenced policy proposals and engage persuasively with decision makers. The ideal candidate will be comfortable dealing with both policy makers and employers, in addition to other key influencers.
Key responsibilities of the role:
•Developing policy positions and policy papers.
•Researching and developing best practice guidance for employers and their influencers.
•Conducting research into the policy and practice of employers & others (e.g. unions, NGOs) with regard to pay.
•Co-ordinating research/carrying out desk research on income inequality and key public policy themes.
•Contributing to the development of One Society strategy, especially with regard to influencing policy and practice.
•Identifying and working with key policy makers, employers, investors and their representatives and influencers.
•Ensuring that systems for monitoring developments in Westminster, Whitehall etc. are maintained, developed and implemented.
•Developing and maintaining One Society's 'library' on inequality policy.
•Carrying out administrative and financial tasks associated with the role.
Person Specification:
The ideal candidate will have some or all of the following attributes:
•Commitment to the aims of One Society.
•Experience of working with policy makers, employers and/or investors.
•Experience of co-ordinating and/or carrying out policy research & analysis.
•Experience of formulating policy proposals.
•Ability to explain complex subjects in a manner appropriate to the audience.
•Ability to communicate persuasively verbally and in writing.
•Knowledge of some or all of the following: economics, employment & benefits, UK. poverty, business & finance.
Contract details:
This role is a full time position. We are willing to consider applicants who are unable to work full time: such preferences should be made clear in applications.
Due to funding arrangements, this role is initially offered as a one-year contract. We hope and expect to secure funding to continue the role beyond the initial year. Interviews are expected to take place on Wednesday 8th February 2012 in London SE1.
