NAT is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to transforming society’s response to HIV. We provide fresh thinking, expertise and practical resources. We champion the rights of people living with HIV and campaign for change.
We are committed to listening to those living with, and affected by, HIV and putting their rights at the centre of all our policies. As part of our ongoing efforts to achieve this aim, we are seeking to appoint a Policy Officer with a specific remit for community engagement to be an integral part of our small but dynamic Policy & Campaigns Team.
We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, flexible, empathetic and able to inspire and motivate others. You will have excellent communication skills – including a good telephone manner – and the ability to build effective working relationships with and relate to all communities affected by HIV.
Experience of working in the HIV sector is not necessary. What is important is an interest in human rights and a good understanding of current HIV policy issues, together with the ability to translate complex policy into simple messages. We are looking for someone who will bring fresh ideas and approaches and adopt a balanced, objective and evidence-based approach to their work.
To be effective in this role you will need to be passionate about NAT’s policy work, support our values and strategic goals and be willing to engage with the wide range of policy issues we address.
Offered initially on a 6-month consultancy basis, the post-holder’s responsibilities will include co-ordinating and developing our virtual HIV Activists Network and Press Gang initiative to maximise their effectiveness and to ensure people living with HIV who are members are supported and empowered to take action. You will also have a broader remit to improve our communication with, and increase levels of feedback from, people living with HIV in the UK.
Although you will primarily be working from home, you must be able to attend NAT’s offices in London for at least one day each month. We would particularly welcome applications from people living with HIV but this is not an essential requirement for this post.
NAT is committed to equality and diversity and encourages applications from gay men, disabled people and people from black and ethnic minority communities.
The National AIDS Trust (NAT) is a Registered Charity No: 297977 and a Company Limited by Guarantee No.2175938 (registered in England and Wales).
