The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) is the preeminent US manufacturing association, as well as the nation’s largest industrial trade association, representing small and large manufacturers in every industrial sector and in all 50 states.
The Senior Director, Government Relations will serve as a key lobbyist for the NAM with Congress. This individual will collaborate extensively with the Vice President and the staff of the Policy Division on legislative activities and regulatory response initiatives. This position will require significant time and direct interaction with congressional offices. The successful candidate will work to advance the NAM's policy agenda through extensive contact with the leadership, committees and members of congress, as well as developing and maintaining member company involvement. This individual will participate in broad based coalitions on matters of importance to the NAM and the Manufacturing Economy while enhancing the effectiveness of Washington lobbying and the advancement of the NAM's pro-growth, pro-worker policy agenda. This candidate will assist the Vice President with developing lobbying strategy among various NAM policy departments and represent the NAM's position before members of Congress, their staff, various executive branches and other organizations. The Senior Director will participate in NAM-led or supported coalitions while assisting the Government Relations staff to oversee NAM on the Hill activities, including contacts with Hill staff, selection of speakers and topics, meeting event details, distribution of invitations and budgetary information. This individual will serve as primary backup to Assistant Vice President and Vice President in all key vote and voting record activities, including the drafting of Key Vote ballots and letters. Further, this individual will also maintain knowledge of NAM priorities and legislative issues in order to provide accurate and timely information and assistance to callers and other staff.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience; exceptional political savvy and solid knowledge of the legislative and regulatory processes, and political and campaign issues; excellent communications skills, both oral and written, with strong persuasive and intellectual ability; experience lobbying Congress, with current contacts preferred. This position requires the ability to plan, think independently and adapt to the needs of a fast-paced professional environment. A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience required. Individual should have ability to use database, e-mail and word processing software, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and independently follow through on assignments.
