The IoD is the UK’s number one organisation for business leaders, with around 45,000 individual members. Members include CEOs of large corporations as well as entrepreneurial directors of start-up companies from all sectors of the economy.

The IoD’s policy team, working closely with the Director-General, represents members and promotes the case for business and enterprise at the highest levels – in government, Parliament, the media and other influential forums.

An opportunity has arisen for an economist to join our team. The role reports directly to the Chief Economist and Director of Policy, and combines generalist economics responsibilities with specific responsibility for developing IoD policy on energy and transport issues.

Skills and knowledge required:

The successful applicant will have relevant experience in economics combined with the desire and drive to work in a dynamic and high profile environment.

Projects undertaken are likely to cover the following areas:
  • Fiscal policy
  • Public sector analysis
  • Energy & transport economics

The role will require the successful applicant to undertake original research, write cogent reports and help compile the IoD’s response to government consultations, the Budget, Pre-Budget Report and Comprehensive Spending Review.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and presentation skills, are essential.

Econometric experience, and experience of dealing directly with the media, would also be advantageous.
