Policy Officer with specialisation in environmental and economic issues 

Intergraf, based in Brussels, represents 23 national printing federations in 20 countries in Europe. Intergraf's main task is to promote and protect the interests of the printing industry by working with the European Institutions and related organisations.

We play a major role in assessing the impact of planned EU legislation, presenting detailed information and positions on their impact on the printing industry. We analyse technological and economic developments affecting the print market, and provide information material about the issues.

Skills and qualifications:

  • University degree in sciences, engineering or economy (mandatory)
  • Excellent writing skills, including on complex technical issues  
  • Confident collector and user of statistical material
  • Very strong written and verbal English skills. Other European languages an asset
  • Organised, able to meet deadlines 
  • Confident user of the Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Self-driven and able to work autonomously
  • Enthusiastic and flexible approach 
  • Good interpersonal skills

Experience and knowledge:

  • A few years’ experience in similar position 
  • A fair knowledge of the functioning of the European institutions.
  • Highly desirable: a fair/basic knowledge about the printing industry. However, this is not mandatory.
  • A fair/basic knowledge about electronic communication media (not mandatory).
  • A fair/basic knowledge about official European classifications of industrial activities and products (not mandatory).

Responsibilities:

1.   Analyse information and communication material about initiatives from European institutions about environment protection and economic issues

2.   Participate in technical meetings organised by European institutions or international stakeholders as representative of the printing industry

3.    Present views on behalf of the printing industry either at meetings or in writing  after meetings according to the planned procedure

4.  Provide feedback and advice to the Secretary General  about meetings or publications by European institutions or relevant industry stakeholders

5.    Ensure close communication with Intergraf specialised committees, and external specialised experts when relevant, or suppliers to the industry

6.  Active role in preparation, and possibly chairing, of Intergraf specialised committee meetings, and ensuring follow-up

7.    Contribute actively to the Intergraf communication activities. This includes the report to the General Assembly, contributions to the monthly newsletter, information updates etc. 

8.    Take up full responsibility for the preparation and publication of the Annual Statistical Report, i.e. extract data from the European database, check their relevance, provide final draft to the graphic designer, and coordinate with the designer and printer.

9.    Organise specialised enquiries among Member Federations

10. Establish contacts and ensure the involvement of machinery suppliers in information exchanges

11.    Occasional general support
  • Maintaining contacts with and supporting member federations
  • Tasks such as correspondence, translation, proofreading and minute writing.

The position is full-time, starting from November/December 2011. The post includes some travel opportunities. The working language is English.
