Public Affairs Action Day - held by Public Affairs News
Commonwealth Club, London
The Public Affairs Action Day combines keynote addresses, best-practice and interactive breakout sessions and networking.
This is a unique day in the public affairs calendar, bringing together the industry’s leading thinkers to share ideas, experiences and opportunities. The day is designed to provide both experienced and new public affairs professionals with a variety of platforms to broaden their understanding of PA techniques and the political landscape.
The day is being organised in association with the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).
Sessions this year include: 'how to prove the value of public affairs in an economic downturn'; 'what clients want from pitches'; 'working with think-tanks'; 'public affairs and green energy'; 'public affairs for charities and voluntary sector'; 'how to integrate PR and PA'; 'best practice in dealing with journalists'; 'you and YouTube: lobbying in the digital age' and many more.
Charles Walker MP - a member of the public administration select committee (PASC) that has been investigating lobbying for the past year – will give the keynote address. A telegenic and outspoken member of PASC, Walker has spoken of his appreciation of lobbyists but has also been critical of bad practice. At the Action Day he will talk about the inquiry, his views on public affairs and the political scene more broadly.
Other speakers will include leading PA/comms pros from organisations including Policy Exchange, Grayling, Weber Shandwick, Edelman, Asda, the IPPR, McDonald’s, Centrica, the Youth Sport Trust, Mandate Communications and MacMillan Cancer Support.
