BerlinRosen, one of New York’s leading public affairs firms, is seeking a senior associate to join our new Washington, DC office. We execute strategic communications campaigns for leading advocacy, labor, corporate, civic and political clients.

The senior associate manages a diverse number of client accounts and is engaged in direct media relations on clients’ behalf.  Successful candidates must have extensive media relations experience – preferably in Washington, DC or at the national level. 

Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Writing strategy documents, communications plans, op-eds and other client-ready materials
  • Pitching key city and state reporters
  • Drafting and editing press releases, fact sheets, talking points, presentation,  and other communications documents
  • Building press lists and pitching reporters and editorial boards to get media attention for events, ideas, and breaking news
  • Researching issues, candidates, and past media coverage of a diverse range of topics
  • Proposing creative ideas for helping clients achieve their goals
  • Monitoring various forms of media on a daily or more frequent basis to help aid in rapid response

Qualifications:

  • Three+ years experience in strategic communications, or demonstrated equivalent experience, with preference for experience in advocacy/ public affairs / political or crisis work. 
  • Demonstrated relationship with congressional and/or national reporters.
  • Demonstrated issue expertise in one or more of BerlinRosen’s issue areas.
  • Excellent news sense and political savvy, as well as knowledge of print and electronic news media in Washington, DC and nationally.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks under tight deadlines and meet schedules and assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with varying levels of company staff, clients, contractors and media.
