The Alzheimer's Association is the leading advocate for Alzheimer policies that will improve the lives of these millions of Americans and their families. To enhance and strengthen this work, the organization seeks to add a Director and a Specialist position to its Policy Development Department. The department is part of the Association's Public Policy Division based in Washington, DC. The Director will lead the department and report to the division's Vice President, also based in the Washington office.

The Director of Policy Development is responsible for supporting the Alzheimer's Association Public Policy efforts through the development of effective policy positions regarding federal, state and public health issues.

Essential Job Functions:

• Evaluating all sources of data and, based on this analysis, participating in the development of the Alzheimer's Association's public policy positions and their adjustments over time.
• Contributing to the implementation of selected priority policies with a particular emphasis on the ongoing implementation of the National Alzheimer's Project Act.
• Evaluating the expected impact of proposed and existing policies on Association constituents.
• Contributing to the Association's understanding and communication of Alzheimer's impact on various populations.

Job Requirements

• A minimum of six years of professional health policy development and analysis experience.
• Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master's) in health policy or a related field; graduate training in economic and/or statistical methods preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of the health care political process and health policy issues; existing knowledge of Alzheimer's issues preferred.
• Strong oral and written communications skills, with extensive experience in public speaking and organizational representation.
• Experience publishing in leading journals or similar.
• Experience working with high level governmental, academic, non-profit and private sector leaders, and with news media.
• Management experience developing budgets, planning projects and supervising staff.
• Ability to work long hours and to travel, as required.
