American Farmland Trust (AFT), the leading national organization dedicated to saving America’s farm and ranch land, promoting healthy farming practices and supporting farms and farmers, is seeking an individual to serve as policy analyst and government relations associate for the Agriculture and the Environment Campaign. American Farmland Trust works at the federal, state and local level and the Agriculture and Environment Campaign is focused on designing and implementing policies that allow U.S. farmers and ranchers to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect and improve water quality while maintaining producers’ economic viability.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE
- Primary subject matter focus will be around climate change issues, however ecosystem service issues and related water quality issues may arise
- Working with partners to design effective policies
- Advocating for policy on Capitol Hill and to the Administration
- Coordinating policy development workshops and activities
- Drafting legislative language
- Writing policy briefs and memos to support communications and Federal policy work
QUALIFICATIONS
- Up to three years substantive policy experience in climate change issues and/or ecosystem services with an understanding of water quality being a plus
- Proven interest in U.S. agriculture policy as it relates to these issues
- Familiarity with Federal law-making and regulatory process
- Strong attention to detail
