The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, a leading national nonprofit healthcare organization, seeks a seasoned, dynamic public policy professional with extensive experience in healthcare to lead our federal and state advocacy efforts.  Stationed in the Washington, DC area, the candidate will be responsible for recommending, developing and implementing short- and long-term advocacy strategies in order to achieve public policy goals that improve quality of life for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and their families. 

The ideal candidate will have professional experience in lobbying Congress and federal agencies; be well-versed in legislative, regulatory and practical issues related to healthcare and aging; have the knowledge and ability to navigate government agencies and interact with high-level policymakers; and have the interpersonal skills and diplomacy to be a powerful player on industry-related coalitions, as well as interact with AFA advisory board members, member organizations and co-workers. 

Responsibilities also include serving as point-of-contact on public policy issues, preparing white papers, writing Congressional testimony, holding Congressional briefings, coordinating with AFA’s communications team on the development and distribution of policy-related materials/campaigns to the public and press, participating in industry roundtables, and serving as liaison to state legislative consultants.

Candidate should be forward-thinking, self-motivated, and have the ability to work independently to bring projects to completion. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with a solid work ethnic, the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, excellent written, verbal and analytic skills, and a commitment to effect change. Seven to 10 + years related experience and proven track record of advocacy success required. Master’s degree or Ph.D. a plus. Employee will collaborate with and report to CEO.
