AdvaMed, the leading trade association representing manufacturers of medical device technologies, is seeking a team player with excellent presentation and interpersonal skills to fill the position of Vice President, Government Affairs. This position will advance the interests of the Association before Congress and policymakers in the Executive Branch and will also develop and implement strategies to advance the industry’s position. This position requires someone with an established and sophisticated political contact network in the healthcare arena, specifically with key Capitol Hill lawmakers and staff, in both the Senate and the House.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable serving as a spokesperson for the medical technology industry and respond to Congressional inquiries and needs to create opportunities to improve Congressional understanding of the industry. This person will have a drive to increase AdvaMed’s visibility and presence in Congress, and in the relevant executive agencies. This position will build coalitions and review pending legislation and regulations that could impact member companies and develop responding advocacy materials. In addition to the above, the ideal candidate will have sound knowledge of the legislative process, and excellent analytical abilities. Proven ability to develop strategic plans for accomplishing legislative priorities a must.
Candidates must have at least ten years of experience in Washington as a government relations executive, a Congressional staffer or as a senior public servant in a relevant government department or agency or business. Relationships with Congressional Members and staff, as well as senior personnel of key government agencies required. Bachelor’s degree required, though preference will be given to candidates with an advanced degree in a relevant discipline, such as a Juris Doctorate, Masters of Business Administration, or Masters of Public Administration.
