As Head of Public Affairs for ActionAid UK, you will lead the team responsible for developing and implementing overall political strategies for issue campaigns and for generally raising ActionAid’s profile within the political establishment and their think tanks.
As part of the global ActionAid family, we are helping to build a fair and just world where everyone can claim their rights. To achieve this we work with local people in more than 45 countries to fight hunger and disease, seek justice and education for women, hold companies and governments to account and help communities cope with emergencies. Join us as Head of Public Affairs and help make this happen.
Reporting to the Director of Policy & Campaigns, you will take responsibility for shaping and ensuring an effective and coherent strategy for influencing government and others in media and industry. You will act as a senior level lobbyist and spokesperson for cross-cutting targets and issues and ensure that we make full use of presenting opportunities to advance our advocacy. Leading the Public Affairs team, you will take ownership of our women’s rights advocacy work, ensuring public policy messages and advocacy materials are coherent, of high quality and consistently promote women’s rights issues and perspectives. As a senior member of the team you will also be involved in activities from reporting to budgeting.
To join us as Head of Public Affairs you will need experience of high level policy influencing/lobbying work and proven ability to design and steer political influencing work at a strategic level. With an in-depth knowledge of decision-making processes and influencing opportunities in the UK Government and international bodies, you will also have extensive media-based advocacy experience. You will be an accomplished manager, adept at networking in the political arena and have experience of policy and advocacy on women’s rights issues. Comfortable working with media you will have excellent presentation and influencing skills as well as the desire to make a positive difference to people’s lives.
