The ACSI Director of Government Affairs is responsible for the oversight of the ACSI Washington, DC office and is responsible for conveying the mission, vision and the interface with secular society of ACSI externally and within the Association.  This director provides leadership, services, consultation and support to the ACSI headquarters, ACSI regional directors, its member schools, and their constituents located across the United States. 

The ACSI Director of Government Affairs is a member of the headquarters’ staff and has a reporting responsibility to the ACSI Chief of Staff.   

The ACSI Director of Government Affairs shall be an individual qualified and prepared to carry out his/her functions so that:

Member Schools
•    will be empowered to achieve effectiveness in their legal/legislative efforts 
•  will regard ACSI as responding to their schools’ interface with governmental requirements in terms of bills, laws and regulations
•    will view ACSI as appropriately representing them

  • Non-Member Christian schools will desire to become members of ACSI. Churches will view Christian schooling as essential. 
  • Government education agencies, the media, and other Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) will view ACSI as a viable and authoritative voice regarding education and seek ACSI’s cooperation and comments.
  • The General Public will recognize the benefit of Christian schooling for the public good. 


Spiritually the ideal candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect:

  • A demonstrated acceptance without reservation of the ACSI Statement of Faith
  • A strong, clear Christian testimony
  • A mature, godly spirit
  • A devotion to faith and prayer
  • A broad acceptance of the evangelical Christian community
  • A strong knowledge and understanding of scripture
  • A commitment to servant leadership
  • A sound, well-rounded understanding of evangelical theology and a Christian worldview and the ability to see the long-term effects of a political point-of-view (in discussion about, or hard copy of, a bill or regulation) from a sound Biblical perspective

Personally the candidate’s life shall reflect:

A high level of integrity
A life consistent with biblical principles
A model of God’s ideal for the family
The gift of listening and responding appropriately to the counsel of others
The gift of discernment when responding to employees and their requests
A commitment to Christian schooling as evidenced by having his/her K-12 school aged children enrolled in a Christian school when possible

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred.  Areas of concentration would typically include Education, Law, Political Science, or Public Administration, among others.
  • Prior experience in working for a legislative body or government agency and advocating for Christian causes preferred.
  • Previous internship experience in an appropriate area would be a plus.
  • Ability to articulate a Christian philosophy of education consistent with Scripture.
  • Adept at articulating the goals and purposes of ACSI in contrast to other groups that represent what the USDE National Center for Education Statistics refers to as secular private schools, “other religious” schools, and “conservative Christian” schools.
  • Demonstrated leadership & management skills along with oral & written communication skills. 
  • A deep understanding of and passion for the Christian school and its movement from Early Education through Higher Education. 
  • A heart, vision, and passion for the individual Christian school and the Christian school movement as a whole. 
  • Ability to work with minorities and in national and international cross-cultural environments.
  • Ability to work with political leaders of both parties and emerging groups.
  • Skills in actively seeking a “place at the table” with national and international leaders regarding issues that matter to ACSI.  
  • Commitment to diversity at all levels in the workplace. 
  • Ability to be a team player. 
  • Willingness to subordinate his/her personal agenda for the sake of the Association. 
  • Openness to new concepts and technology.
  • Ability to collaborate with coalitions/partnerships, faith-based entities, other public and private school groups (when appropriate), and various churches and denominations.
